Nutrition Health

Our on-site Registered Dietitian is available to our patients to help manage nutrition-related conditions and improve lifestyle health for disease prevention.

The dietitian sees patients for 60-minute nutrition counseling sessions and provides recurring workshops on nutrition and lifestyle health in partnership with the Grimsby Township; these work-shops are hosted at the Grimsby Public Library or Peach King Community Centre.

Nutrition Counseling is offered for the following issues and conditions:

  • Cholesterol / Pre-Diabetes and Diabetes / High Blood Pressure / Fatty Liver / Pancreatitis
  • Gastrointestinal Conditions (Reflux, IBS, Diverticular Disease, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Celiac Disease, Food intolerances)
  • Osteoporosis
  • Anemia
  • Ensuring adequate intake of vitamins and minerals
  • Eating well as a Vegetarian / Sports nutrition
  • Learning how to read food labels
  • Meal planning
  • Prenatal, infant and childhood nutrition
  • Senior’s Nutrition
  • Nutrition to support Mental Health

During your session, the dietitian will review your diet and/or your dietary and lifestyle challenges and collaborate with you to set realistic goals for improving food choices and habits.

For improving food choices and eating habits, we invite patients to participate in one of our lifestyle programs:

GMA Online Health Challenge

Patients of Grimsby Medical Associates are invited to register for an online 4-week lifestyle challenge program delivered by the Registered Dietitian and the Registered Nurse. The program re-starts on the first Tuesday of every month and includes weekly emails to move participants towards improved diet and exercise habits. The starter package includes all the information and tools needed to translate weekly emails into action and results in the comfort of your own home. Participants compete anonymously to achieve the greatest improvements in the combination of diet, exercise, blood pressure, and weight and they are able to compare their results to others, anonymously, at the end of the challenge. Patients are encouraged to sign up at reception.

One-on-one counseling appointments for weight management are limited.  Please let us know if you have extenuating circumstances that prevent you from attending our group programs.  Please note that the dietitian does not prescribe restrictive diets for rapid weight loss.  Emphasis is on progressive and sustainable behaviour change.

Come and learn about diverse nutrition topics presented each summer at the Grimsby Public Library (see library events page for details or call 905.945.5142) and every month at the Peach King Centre.  Our dietitian partners with the dietitian from Beamsville Family Health Team to deliver 30-minute bursts of nutrition information once a month on a Thursday at 10 am after Peach King’s Happy Hearts fitness class (call our office or Peach King for details).
